Ideal Wedding Photography Areas in Philadelphia by Trevor Price
When it comes to wedding photography, Philadelphia is a fantastic city. With its urban setting, historic buildings, beautiful parks and reputation as the “city of love,” it’s hard to go wrong in Philly. For a list of some of the best wedding photo locations in that great city, keep reading
Longwood Gardens (longwoodgardens.org)
It’s hard to go wrong at Longwood Gardens, the grounds are massive, but also pristine and positively stunning. With water fountains, flowers and beautiful foliage, the Gardens make for an incredible backdrop setting for your Philadelphia wedding photos.
Wedding photography is permitted at Longwood Gardens but must be done outside during operating hours and can’t interfere with other visitors. Everyone going for photographs, including the photographer, must also pay the $16 admission fee. It should also be noted that lights and tripods may not be used at any time.
JFK Plaza or LOVE Park
Philadelphia’s JFK Plaza is lovingly nicknamed LOVE Park thanks to the iconic LOVE statue made by Robert Indiana situated at the head of the park. It’s an urban, Center City setting with a romantic fountain and a locale that simply embodies the city.
It’s free to take photos in LOVE Park, but be prepared to compete with other wedding parties, especially if you’re shooting on a busy June Saturday. To avoid disappointment, set aside some extra photography time in case you run into another wedding.
Bartram’s Garden
As one of the nation’s oldest botanical gardens – Bartram’s Gardens – are steeped in history and tradition. They’re also incredibly beautiful, making them the perfect location for wedding photography. Philadelphia residents will instantly recognize the beautiful stone courtyard and classic coach house.
However, shooting at Bartram’s isn’t cheap or easy. Unless your wedding is already booked at the venue, you may have to reserve around a wedding. Regardless, you can expect to pay between $200 and $250 per hour for photographing at the space.
Art Museum Steps
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest art museums in the United States. Located in the infamous Fairmount Park, the museum makes a stunning backdrop for memorable Philadelphia wedding photos.
The steps are massive and high, while the eight pillars are a stunning backdrop. You may recognize the popular photo setting from the Rocky movies as the steps that Rocky Balboa climbed during his training. Keep in mind that wedding parties require a $50 per hour permit from the Fairmount Park Commission to shoot on the location.
Rittenhouse Square Park
Smack dab in the middle of Center City, Rittenhouse Square is both a convenient and beautiful spot for wedding pictures. Philadelphia residents will instantly recognize the urban park’s green setting and natural beauty. The best part? You don’t need a permit to shoot.

Excerpt: Ansel Easton Adams Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 April 22, 1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist , best known for his black-and-white photographs of the American West , especially in Yosemite National Park . One of his most famous photographs was Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite National Park, California. With Fred Archer, Adams developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The resulting clarity and depth characterized his photographs and the work of those he taught the system. Adams primarily used large-format cameras, despite their size, weight, setup time, and film cost, because their high resolution helped ensure sharpness in his images. Adams founded the Group f/64 along with fellow photographers Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham , which in turn created the Museum of Modern Art ’s department of photography. Adams’s timeless and visually stunning photographs are reproduced on calendars, posters, and in books, making his photographs widely recognizable. Life Childhood Adams was born in the Western Addition of San Francisco, California , to distinctly upper-class parents Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray Adams. He was an only child and was named after his uncle Ansel Easton. The Adams family came from New England, having migrated from the north of Ireland in the early 1700s. His grandfather founded and built a prosperous lumber business, which his father later ran, though his father s natural talents |

Korda has said that at the moment he shot the picture, he was drawn to Guevara’s facial expression, which showed “absolute implacability” as well as anger and pain. Years later, Korda would say that the photo showed Che’s firm and stoic character. Guevara was 31 at the time the photo was taken. Emphasizing the image’s ubiquitous nature and wide appeal, the Maryland Institute College of Art called the picture a symbol of the 20th century and the world’s most famous photo.
